Prepare image for mini-canvas stretching

For those who plan to attend the Feb 10 workshop on mat cutting and canvas stretching, here’s the instruction on how to prepare and print your canvas piece:

  1. Start with a 4*4 inch image.
  2. Prepare a 1.75 inch border on each side of the image. The border will be for wrapping around the edges of the canvas frame which are about 1.5 inches thick. I do a reflection edge (see http://www.wunderbars.com/how-to-photoshop-canvas-wrap.html for sample instructions). You can also try pixel stretch, image wrap, or just a solid colour. Your image should now measure 7.5*7.5 inches.
  3. Add extra white space all around so that the final printed canvas piece is around 8.5*8.5 inches. See sample image below.

If you need a local print shop to print your canvas image, Photo Media Decor (http://web.photomediadecor.com) is what I use (this is purely a public service announcement – I don’t get any kickbacks 🙂 ) Ask for unstretched canvas, and specify no finishing lamination (which will make it easier to stretch the canvas). I’ll demonstrate finishing the canvas during the workshop.
